Hiking in Mountain near Golitsa 29/10-21
Today I decided to explore the hiking opportunities in the area around Solnik. Solnik is not far from the Balkan mountains that separate the border between Varna and Burgas. I knew this had to be a suitable place for hiking, but I did not quite know where to start. Not much hiking is recorded in this area. Only bike paths and roads for ATVs. The latter is something I personally am not particularly excited about, but it is clear that this is popular in this country. Anyway, before I left, I used Google Map to find a suitable place to park for a hike in the mountains. This was a place just before the village Golitsa. Just follow the GPS to drive away.
When I arrived at the place I could see that there was a path straight up to the mountain. Perfect. I regretted a bit that I did not put on the Strava app before I started walking, but decided that I could do it on the way back. Fantastic scenery, 15 degrees and sun. Like going in Jotunheimen at the end of August. According to the Norwegian calendar, you can turn back time 2 months, at least. This was a real upswing. The first part of the trip was of course a lot uphill, about 250 meters if I interpreted the altimeter correctly. Heavy enough for someone who has not been too active lately, Then it was just to follow the ridge of the mountain in an easterly direction. The Balkan Mountains stretch throughout Bulgaria from the west to the Black Sea in the east. I was all alone on the mountain, except for 4-5 horses that I passed on the trip. They seemed a bit semi-wild. One came galloping after me, but when I turned around to say it just had to get back, it seemed like it understood and ran back. I started to think a bit about the return trip, I had to pass these horses again. After a while, it started to go down a lot again. I decided to turn around. My goal of finding good hiking areas was achieved. Longer trips can be planned here later. I put on the Strava app and went back the same way I came. It went well to pass the horses, seemed like they accepted me now.
