Bulgaria 20-27 september 2017 Panitsovo

Wednesday: Landed in Burgas at 10:30. Then we had slept on a bench at Gardermoen for a few hours. We were supposed to be smart to go with the last train to Gardermoen, but check-in was closed and we had to sleep outside in the departure hall. We took out the rental car, which had been booked in advance, and drove 906 towards Panitsovo. When we got there, it quickly turned out that an SUV had been a better choice of rental car. The roads are terribly bad and the car’s chassis was really beaten. 

We got to see a bit, but decided not to visit the farm now. We drove towards Obzor and took the shortcut via Preseltsi and Rakovskovo.

But almost there, the road was blocked due to roadworks. Obedient as we are, we only follow the sign, but quickly realize that it leads the wrong way and into the country again. So we turn around and drive back. We finally find a new road to Obzor and for a long time we end up on the same roadblock. We ask some locals who just wave us past the roadblock. So it was an hour with frustration before we arrived at the hotel. We were hungry and tired too.

Thursday: The next day Roger arrived at the Dukov Hotel. We drove to the farm in Panitsovo and talked to Youlia and Latin. I asked if it was possible to buy the whole farm and that they could live and operate there for a few years until we could take over. They thought this was a good plan to send a quote on everything.
We also looked at land for sale in both Preseltsi and Rakovskovo

Friday: The next day Roger and Luba came to the Hotel. We were going to drive together and stay one night in Sozopol. This is a wonderful place and the hotel was very nice.

Saturday: On Saturday we drove past the old town of Nessebar with its historic 40 churches. Nessebar which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Fantastic great place.

Then we drove off to the farthest headland in the Balkans, a place called Emona. We were actually going to Irakli Beach, but we drove past it. According to Luba, it was supposed to be a place where free thinkers (hippies) lived during the communist era.

Sunday we went for a 2 hour walk to Morsko, a hidden village near Panitsovo. Great trip and nice pictures. Met 2 Englishmen with 2 dogs on a trip. They have lived in Bulgaria for 10 years and have never regretted.

Monday: New visit to the farm and viewing in all nooks and crannies.

Then to Varna to Luba and Roger. We walked around Varna a bit and had the opportunity to write down an important thing that we wanted fulfilled before we die. A wall had been set up for everyone to write on. Funny.

They had booked a table at our famous restaurant ‘Staria Chinar’ from previous visits, but it was not the same experience on the food as last time we were there. The sound and music were loud and we had to ask them to mute several times. But it only lasted a short while. But it was a very nice evening with Luba and Roger.

The next day we drove to Burgas and spent the night in a hotel not far from the airport. We had filled the tank on the road, so it was only a matter of delivering the car to the airport tomorrow morning.

It eventually became clear to you that Latin and Youlia did not want to sell the farm, so it was only a matter of letting the lawyer stop the preliminary contract. New depression was a fact 🙁
